[Review] Odin Sphere Leifthrasir

A game with an interesting narrative, that is held back by some poor design choices

Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is a 2D action RPG game set in a fantasy world. It came out in 2016 for the PS3, PS4 and PSvita. This game is a remake, the original game, simply titled, Odin Sphere was a PS2 game that came out in 2008. I had this game on my backlog for a long time. I have finally got around to playing it and I have many thoughts about it. I have finished all stories including getting both the good and bad endings so my opinion is solidified.

Let's start off with the positives. Odin Sphere has a great overall narrative which is deep and thought invoking. I was very invested in the story wanting to find out what was going to happen next. The way the story is told is that, each character you play as continuously adds to the overarching narrative. This lets you slowly piece things together and see things from other peoples perspectives, which makes it easier to digest. After playing all main characters you also get an ending story featuring all the characters. The main characters of the game are all well written and grow throughout the game. Key standouts for me are Oswald and Mercedes. The game's art style is wonderful and the animation is really well done. It looks exactly like it's from a fairy tale book which suits the game very well.

Now for the negatives. As cool as it is in theory to actually play the different characters none of them really feel too unique. This is because the abilities of the characters are never really used. Mercedes can fly for example, so I expected more flying sections, though I am kind of glad they didn't since she can't reload in the air for some reason. On top of this the levels are all very samey in nature with the same enemies, items and sometimes even the same boss. The reuse of bosses is very extreme actually, you can find certain bosses in nearly all stories making it so you fight the same exact boss many times with no changes. Some of these bosses are also poorly designed, the mage bosses in particular, who constantly warp around the battlefield. The game in general is very repetitive. While I had fun at first, all you do is clear rooms of enemies and then go fight a boss, which is extremely simple and boring design. Due to this, I actually found myself wanting to quit the game multiple times.

Overall, I think Odin Sphere is a good experience but definitely needed more variety to help make the experience feel better. I unlocked some things like a new game plus after beating the game but I do not see myself going back to it again as I feel I already got my fill.

Start of a new series! Fully Charged is a series in which I go over games I have recently played. Each instalment will release when I have played 2-4 games, updates or demos. With less time for this blog now, I won't be doing many, if any, full reviews. This series will instead cover the games I have played critically, in a mini-review format. Mario Kart World https://store.nintendo.co.uk This is the game everyone has been playing recently if they got a Switch 2. I want to start off by saying I quite like this game, it feels quite different from 8 in a good way. One of the biggest things I like about the games feel, is the control. Vehicles in this game do not feel as stiff. How could I not mention the wall driving and rail grinding too, those add a lot more depth to tracks and are very fun to do. The new knockout tour is a great addition to the series, I find myself playing these just as much as grand prix's. Free roam is quite fun, there are some cool challenges to do within ...

[Thoughts] Will Tears of the Kingdom have DLC?

DLC for Tears of the kingdom could happen but I don't think it's likely Source: Author's edit I want to start off by saying I do not think this game needs DLC at all, though it would be welcome. Breath of the Wild had an expansion pass with 3 waves of content. Looking at the contents of that could give us an idea about what a Tears of the Kingdom expansion pass could look like. The first wave (Expansion pass purchase bonus) was available at the games launch and included the following: - 3 new treasure chests This was a very small wave featuring 3 chests of goodies. The biggest thing from this was a Nintendo Switch shirt link could wear. It was a nice little extra to start the game off with but definitely not the defining content of the pass. Moving on, The second wave (DLC pack 1) offered a lot more in terms of content, with it offering these following things: - Trail of the Sword - Master mode - Heroes path mode.  This wave offered many things to test the players skill...
