The recent Nintendo direct was good for Mario content but lacking otherwise

The direct showed off many new games, with most of them coming out this year. Previously Nintendo's line-up for the rest of 2023 was looking a bit empty but thanks to this direct it is now looking better for the rest of the year. This is what was revealed/shown in the recent direct:
- Pokémon DLC
- Sonic Superstars
- Palia
- Persona 5 Tactica
- Mythforce
- The latest Splatoon 3 splatfest
- Detective Pikachu Returns
- Super Mario RPG
- A new Princess Peach game
- Luigi's mansion 2 HD
- Batman Arkham trilogy
- Gloomhaven
- Just Dance 2023
- Silent Hope
- Fae Farm
- Hot wheels unleashed: Turbo charged
- Manic Mechanics
- Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope DLC
- DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Dark Prince
- Pikmin 4
- Pikmin 1 + 2 HD
- METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol.1
- Vampire Survivors
- Headbangers Rhythm Royale
- Penny's Big Breakaway
- Mario Kart 8 DLC wave 5
- STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY R
- WarioWare: Move It!
- New amiibo for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
While this is what Nintendo needed for the second half of the year, my issue is that there are a total of 6 things here that can be considered part of the Mario series. All of the bigger reveals of the direct where amongst these too. While this means Mario fans are getting quite the feast, it leaves fans of other franchises somewhat in the dust. I am probably going to get Super Mario RPG but I am not sure about the new 2D Mario, I will wait for more info on that one. The Mario Kart Deluxe wave 5 DLC was a slight disappointment for me, with the addition of more characters I thought they would get creative with who they bring in, only for them to add in 3 standard Mario characters. The other Mario things, didn't really interest me at all. When we see more of the Princess Peach game in the future I may turn back on this.

There where quite a few 3rd party reveals but even those where fairly average. The Batman Arkham and Metal Gear Solid compilations where the best showing from 3rd parties. I would like to say though, the Metal Gear Solid collection looks like it was put together with a lot of love compared some other compilation games, which is nice for fans of the series.

For me the most exciting things were the new Tears of the Kingdom amiibo and the Super Mario RPG remake. These new amiibos look great and due to data mining we know exactly what they will do in game, which comes as no surprise since it's what all other amiibos do in the game. I also haven't played Super Mario RPG before so it will be great to finally experience it since I like the other Mario RPG's. I don't think it was the worst Nintendo direct by any means but it didn't have much for people who aren't a Mario fan. It makes sense that Nintendo is saving bigger titles such as Metroid Prime 4 for a possible new switch, which is why my expectations were not too high. Even my low expectations where barely matched though.
Overall, I would say it was a okay direct that served it's purpose. September could bring us another direct since they typically do one at that time and if there is one then, I am hoping it delivers a bit more than this one.
That's it for this blog, stay connected!
