[Thoughts] Sonic Frontiers Update 2

Sonic Frontier's second update introduces several good changes and additions

source: www.youtube.com/@SonictheHedgehog

On the 24th of June a new update went live for Sonic Frontiers. This update added the second wave of free DLC to the game. Along with the update we got a bunch of quality of life features too. While it isn't the major update wave 3 will be, this is a bigger update than wave 1. The key standouts of this update are the addition of action chains, the spin dash and the new koko.

Let's start off by talking about the action chains. These can be found all over the different islands and are time based challenges were you must get as many points as you can in a set time. You can get points from many things, such as, grinding a rail or defeating an enemy. Figuring out how to S rank these can provide a decent challenge. Though, it is a bit annoying how you can have a run get destroyed because of a nearby enemy. Some enemies when you get close lock you into fighting them and there is even one enemy that completely disorientates your camera as you run by. Despite this, these action chains are still quite fun to do.

It's a good thing that the action chains are fun because the spin dash is locked behind getting an S rank on every action chain. However, when you do get the spin dash it really does change how the game is played. You can get some great air time with the spin dash and go around the islands very fast. It's such a fun spin dash, with it being a combination of Sonic Lost World's and Sonic Adventure's.

You may be thinking why am I mentioning the new koko when all they do is increase stats, well, I am talking about the new challenges they provide. Each new koko has a specific platforming challenge tied to it. These platforming challenges are pretty good and personally, I think the base game was a bit lacking in the platforming department. So, these extra challenges made for a nice addition for sure. Though, it should be noted that the draw distance can make it hard to see how to get to certain ones.

There are many other smaller changes that I could talk about but I will leave it at that. If you have Sonic Frontiers and enjoyed it be sure to try the update for yourself. This update really makes me interested in what wave 3 will give us now. That update will be available later on in the year, though there is no set date yet.

That's it for this blog, stay connected!

[News] New "Hype trailer" for Summer Game Fest goes live

Summer Game Fest gets new video source : twitter.com/summergamefest Summer Game Fest hosted by Geoff Keighley will be live this Thursday, June 8th as announced a few days ago. The event will be streamed everywhere @  3pm ET / Noon PT / 9pm CEST.  Currently, other than a showing for the recently revealed Mortal Kombat remake, there are no details as to what to expect from the show. However, in a follow up tweet to the video post, Geoff states we will find out soon. In that same reply he also says what you see in the video is not indicative of what we will or won't see. So it serves as just a little mind refresher for some of the new games this year. Link to the video can be found here  SGF video I will be watching this event, but I will have my expectations set very low. Previous summer game fests have not been that interesting so I expect this one to follow suit. Though, with E3 not being a thing anymore offici...

[News] Another game comes to Nintendo Switch Online!

Another game is now available for Nintendo Switch Online members   source:  twitter.com/NintendoAmerica Over on X (Twitter), Nintendo has announced that  another game is coming to Nintendo Switch Online. This includes 1 GBA game. The GBA game included in this update is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. The GBA app does require the expansion pass tier so if you have it you can enjoy this game. This game will be available from August 9th. For more information on the game click this link: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team I haven't played Red Rescue Team, but I have played Blue Rescue Team and loved it. They are essentially the same game just Blue Rescue Team was on the DS. Both aren't coming together as we sadly don't have a DS app. I hope people who have the expansion take the time to try this, as the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, while a bit repetitive in gameplay, bring a lot more interesting narratives than mainline Pokemon games.   That's it f...

Fully Charged: Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble, Shantae and the Seven Sirens, Mario Kart World

Start of a new series! Fully Charged is a series in which I go over games I have recently played. Each instalment will release when I have played 2-4 games, updates or demos. With less time for this blog now, I won't be doing many, if any, full reviews. This series will instead cover the games I have played critically, in a mini-review format. Mario Kart World https://store.nintendo.co.uk This is the game everyone has been playing recently if they got a Switch 2. I want to start off by saying I quite like this game, it feels quite different from 8 in a good way. One of the biggest things I like about the games feel, is the control. Vehicles in this game do not feel as stiff. How could I not mention the wall driving and rail grinding too, those add a lot more depth to tracks and are very fun to do. The new knockout tour is a great addition to the series, I find myself playing these just as much as grand prix's. Free roam is quite fun, there are some cool challenges to do within ...
