[Review] God Of War III Remastered

The best of the original trilogy, easily

source: pressakey.com

~ Intro ~

God of War III is the final game in the original Greek trilogy. It is a hack and slash action game, made by Santa Monica. The remaster I played was released on July 17th 2015 for PS4, while the original released on March 19th 2010 for PS3. After playing the first two games I wanted to finish off the trilogy and the remastered version was a great way to do that. Having played the first and second game just before this one I was able to see how the series had evolved and allowed me to make more informed opinions. With that being the case, I am more than confident to give my opinions on this game now.

~ Positives ~

To start off with lets talk about the story of the game. The story picks up right after the second games ending, with a big battle between Zeus and the titans. After a series of events Kratos finds himself in the depths below, from here his final adventure in Greece begins. He finds out that in order to take down Zeus he must open Pandora's box again. This becomes the main objective of the game. While the story isn't anything crazy it is one that flows nicely and has some great moments for sure. This game also introduced lore pages scattered around the world. This was a great addition, and added in some good world building to the game.

As for the characters well, Kratos clearly shines here, with him having some great development, more so towards the end that is. He finally starts to care about more than just himself which was great to see. Zeus was also a good antagonist with him feeling very threatening and powerful throughout the game. There was a new character to the game that I liked as well, though she didn't get much screen time sadly.

As for gameplay, it was quite good. This game has the most variety out of the original three games for sure. The puzzles were mostly good and the level design was great. Bosses were also a big highlight of this game, all the bosses I felt were really cool and a lot of fun. The special abilities of the game were used well too, one ability could be used for lighting up a dark cave, while also being able to reveal secrets. If you like to replay games, the replay value for this game is definitely there. As you progress you collect certain objects which can be used in repeat playthroughs giving you boons or banes.

Combat was enhanced from the second game. The addition of a ranged grab was great, it made enemy encounters much more fun especially when dealing with flying enemies. There are even some enemies that you can stop from doing annoying attacks with it too. In this game you get access to the most weapons, with there being a total of 4 different weapons. The knuckle weapons were the best of the new weapons as they felt quite different and had quite a bit of use in the game.

~ Negatives ~

To start off the things I didn't like about the game, let's talk about this games polish. Throughout playing the game there were several times were I felt there was a lack of polish. In the first 10 minutes of the game I saw visual bugs for were a texture should have been. Spoken dialogue could sometimes feel like it wasn't properly mastered. I encountered a glitch were one of the bosses got stuck indefinitely, causing me to restart from the last checkpoint. Yeah, these are just some of the things I witnessed. While it isn't extremely unpolished it is something I need to talk about.

The camera can be really frustrating at times. This game uses fixed cameras for certain sections and because of this it can have good shots showing your objective clearly, though other times it can be a great hindrance. Platforming with the fixed angles can set you up for failure and sometimes during combat your camera can be obscured. Fixed cameras in a action game is a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

The final boss sadly fell a bit short for me. This is because it felt very similar to the fight from the second game. I wish it had been a bit more different and they had things they could have done with the fight but they just chose not to. If the fight had been an improved version I wouldn't have minded as much but that wasn't the case. The final fight from the second game had more to it, with this one feeling fairly bland in comparison.

~ Conclusion ~

Overall, God Of War III stands a a very solid game and a great end to the Greek trilogy. While it could have been a little better across the board it is very solid in most aspects. There isn't too much that is inherently bad about this game just mostly things I wished were better. I am more than glad I played this game though and would recommend it to any one who wants some hack and slash goodness.

Start of a new series! Fully Charged is a series in which I go over games I have recently played. Each instalment will release when I have played 2-4 games, updates or demos. With less time for this blog now, I won't be doing many, if any, full reviews. This series will instead cover the games I have played critically, in a mini-review format. Mario Kart World https://store.nintendo.co.uk This is the game everyone has been playing recently if they got a Switch 2. I want to start off by saying I quite like this game, it feels quite different from 8 in a good way. One of the biggest things I like about the games feel, is the control. Vehicles in this game do not feel as stiff. How could I not mention the wall driving and rail grinding too, those add a lot more depth to tracks and are very fun to do. The new knockout tour is a great addition to the series, I find myself playing these just as much as grand prix's. Free roam is quite fun, there are some cool challenges to do within ...

[Thoughts] Will Tears of the Kingdom have DLC?

DLC for Tears of the kingdom could happen but I don't think it's likely Source: Author's edit I want to start off by saying I do not think this game needs DLC at all, though it would be welcome. Breath of the Wild had an expansion pass with 3 waves of content. Looking at the contents of that could give us an idea about what a Tears of the Kingdom expansion pass could look like. The first wave (Expansion pass purchase bonus) was available at the games launch and included the following: - 3 new treasure chests This was a very small wave featuring 3 chests of goodies. The biggest thing from this was a Nintendo Switch shirt link could wear. It was a nice little extra to start the game off with but definitely not the defining content of the pass. Moving on, The second wave (DLC pack 1) offered a lot more in terms of content, with it offering these following things: - Trail of the Sword - Master mode - Heroes path mode.  This wave offered many things to test the players skill...
