Kratos isn't done yet!

This free DLC update came out 12th December 2023. It brought along a whole new epilogue story. This new epilogue story has a separate section on the main menu screen which you use to access it. You can play it any time but it contains spoilers for the main game so I wouldn't play it until after beating the main game. The gameplay for this is rogue like so it isn't the same type of gameplay as the base game. This allows you to get lots of replay value out of it. The game encourages you to do multiple playthroughs to see all the DLC has to offer. I have now completed this update and got all the trophies for it, so I am now able to give my full opinion on it.
~ Positives ~
Let's start by talking about the positives. To start with, the amount of stuff you get here for free is very respectable. They could have easily charged a fee for this DLC but they didn't. I would have happily paid a small fee for the amount of content we got in this DLC. Next, this mode wonderfully rounds off the story of Kratos. After this he really feels like he has developed since his Greek days. While the main game did the heavy lifting, this extra bit perfectly ends off things for Kratos character arc. This mode could have been extremely repetitive but I found that even after doing so many runs getting the trophies, it never got boring or samey. There is a great amount of variety in each run you do with many options for you to take. I don't normally care for rogue like games but I liked this DLC's approach to it. The references to previous games really made me smile, the fact we got many of the classic enemies remade in this new style of God Of War really was awesome. Not only did we get that though, they brought in a new rage ability which was the sword of Zeus. While I don't like it too much in gameplay it was so epic destroying monsters with it when it was introduced in the DLC. Of course if you haven't played the previous games, this won't hit as hard but it will intrigue you to go and play them. Tyr was a character from the main game and was the God Of War for the Norse land, however we never saw him actually fight. This DLC scratches that itch which some awesome boss battles against him. He has three different move sets too, using different weapons.
~ Negatives ~
Now let's talk about the negatives. With a DLC being free it's hard to find anything you can really be mad about. I will say though, I wish it was a little less grindy. I didn't bother getting all the unlockables because it cost way too much in game currency to get everything and would take too long of a time. All of the cool armours were just cosmetic, I kind of wish they granted different buffs to Kratos, adding an extra layer of depth to your run. So this made it especially not worth it in the long run to get everything.
~ Conclusion ~
To conclude, this update was really good and I would recommend any God Of War fan to play it. There is a ton of fun to be had here for FREE. I do wonder if this was the rumoured project the God Of War team were working on or if there is something else coming. I would still like to see a solo game for Atreus especially so now Kratos feels wrapped up. I rated the base game a 9.3/10 and I would rate this DLC around an 8.5/10.
That's it for this blog, stay connected!
