[Thoughts] Nintendo Direct 27/03/25

A surprise direct that met expectations (though they were quite low)

If you haven't already, you can view the direct here.

With the situation as it stands, I did not expect any new big game announcements, and I really don't think the Switch needs them. It is time for it to be passing on the torch now. That said, we did get to see both big games coming to Switch this year as well as a surprise for fans of two niche series, which made for a fairly decent direct overall despite the lack of big new titles.

Metroid continues to impress and looks very good. On top of that, the music sounds phenomenal. I have not tried a Metroid Prime game but this one really makes me want to for sure. The new suit design for Samus looks awesome. The new abilities, in particular, the one that lets you steer your projectile, could be very interesting for puzzles and exploration. Still no actual date for its release, though.

We got to see more about Pokemon Legends Z-A and its gameplay loop. It seems to go for a more unique loop where players work up the ranks to get to the top and earn a "wish". I particularly like how night and day are distinguished by having different aspects to them. Wild Pokemon during the day and trainer battles at night. There is a chance for this to get a bit repetitive at times, like Arceus, but Arceus never really bothered me too much personally. A few more returning Pokemon were also shown like the elemental monkeys. There was not much info other than that though.

Tomdachi and Rhythm Haven made a big surprising comeback. I am sure fans are overjoyed with this news. I haven't tried one of these games before and I don't think it would be my thing but again, I am sure fans are excited. I am willing to try a demo though for sure, if either game gets one.

I also want to mention two extra things they revealed, those being, the digital cartridges and the Nintendo news app. The cartridges are a great idea and I am surprised it wasn't implemented sooner. Lending out digital games to people will be pretty nice and I think that is the best part about it. I will still be buying all my games physically, though. The news app seems a bit pointless to me, but I suppose it will be a nice way to get correct and up-to-date info about Nintendo games and services.

Overall, this direct about met my expectations and I would rate this direct a C. The real meat and potatoes are coming soon with the Switch 2 direct, though, which I very much so look forward to.

That's it for this blog, stay connected!

[News] New "Hype trailer" for Summer Game Fest goes live

Summer Game Fest gets new video source : twitter.com/summergamefest Summer Game Fest hosted by Geoff Keighley will be live this Thursday, June 8th as announced a few days ago. The event will be streamed everywhere @  3pm ET / Noon PT / 9pm CEST.  Currently, other than a showing for the recently revealed Mortal Kombat remake, there are no details as to what to expect from the show. However, in a follow up tweet to the video post, Geoff states we will find out soon. In that same reply he also says what you see in the video is not indicative of what we will or won't see. So it serves as just a little mind refresher for some of the new games this year. Link to the video can be found here  SGF video I will be watching this event, but I will have my expectations set very low. Previous summer game fests have not been that interesting so I expect this one to follow suit. Though, with E3 not being a thing anymore offici...

[News] Another game comes to Nintendo Switch Online!

Another game is now available for Nintendo Switch Online members   source:  twitter.com/NintendoAmerica Over on X (Twitter), Nintendo has announced that  another game is coming to Nintendo Switch Online. This includes 1 GBA game. The GBA game included in this update is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. The GBA app does require the expansion pass tier so if you have it you can enjoy this game. This game will be available from August 9th. For more information on the game click this link: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team I haven't played Red Rescue Team, but I have played Blue Rescue Team and loved it. They are essentially the same game just Blue Rescue Team was on the DS. Both aren't coming together as we sadly don't have a DS app. I hope people who have the expansion take the time to try this, as the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, while a bit repetitive in gameplay, bring a lot more interesting narratives than mainline Pokemon games.   That's it f...

Fully Charged: Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble, Shantae and the Seven Sirens, Mario Kart World

Start of a new series! Fully Charged is a series in which I go over games I have recently played. Each instalment will release when I have played 2-4 games, updates or demos. With less time for this blog now, I won't be doing many, if any, full reviews. This series will instead cover the games I have played critically, in a mini-review format. Mario Kart World https://store.nintendo.co.uk This is the game everyone has been playing recently if they got a Switch 2. I want to start off by saying I quite like this game, it feels quite different from 8 in a good way. One of the biggest things I like about the games feel, is the control. Vehicles in this game do not feel as stiff. How could I not mention the wall driving and rail grinding too, those add a lot more depth to tracks and are very fun to do. The new knockout tour is a great addition to the series, I find myself playing these just as much as grand prix's. Free roam is quite fun, there are some cool challenges to do within ...
